Developing Aerospace Capabilities
AAIS provides various services and resources via our knowledge partners to aid companies that are looking at enhancing their readiness and competitiveness to serve the aerospace industry.
Some of AAIS Capabilities Development Initiatives include:
- Assisting local based companies in implementing Quality Management Systems such as ISO 14001, OSHAS 18001, ISO 90001, AS9100 - AS9120 and Nadcap via government funding and assistance schemes.
- SMS (Safety management system) implementation and training via MOM/WSH RMAF and Bizsafe support scheme.
- Providing much needed training programs in preparing companies for Aerospace Management system such as Aero101, AS Awareness Training and Internal Auditor Training courses.
- Organising a variety of QMS seminars/talks which are held on a periodic basic with aims to promote the awareness and update of Aerospace requirements and trends for existing and newly ventured companies in the aerospace industry.
- Technology Adoption via the Technology Improvement and Adoption Programme (TIA); a funding scheme.
- Maximizing strength and competitiveness by complimenting products and services of different Aerospace companies with the formation of AeroConsortiums.
- Timely updates on regulatory issues around the world (such as CAAS, FAA, ESAS etc), providing companies with latest trends and information on industry requirements.

Embraer Lineage 1000 receives FAA Certification
Embraer has received the Type Certificaiton (TC) and the Supplemental Type Certificates(STC) from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its ultra-large Lineage 1000 executive jets. The aircaft was also awarded tpe certification by Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency - ANAC and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in December 2008.
The certification confirms the Lineage 1000's maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 54,500kg, and authorise the jet to operate under Extended Operation Rules (ETOPS 120). This clearance demonstrates the aircraft capability of flying routes that have a diversion airport up to 120 minutes from the flight path.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian manufacturer has announced that it delievered 59 jets to the commerical, executive as well as defence and government aviation segments during the last quarter of 2008, making a total of 204 jets delievered in 2008. The last quarter also saw the delievery of the first two Phenom 100 executive jets. By end December last year, the value of the firm order backlog came to US$20.9 billion.
On the market outlook for China, Embraer forcasts a toal demand of 875 new regional jets over the next 20 years, consisting of 120 for 30-60 seats, 295 for 61-90 seats and 460 for 91-120 seats.

DB Schenker pionners aerospace 3PL certification
SCHENKER SINGAPORE is the first third-party logistics provider (3PL) organisation in Singapore, South-East Asia as well as the Asia-Pacific region, to attain the certification on EN/AS 9120:2002. The assesment was performed in accordance with the requirements of AS9104A, for the Provision of Warehousing and Distribution of Aircraft Parts.
Achievement of certification to AS9120 provides firm evidence that DB Schenker meets thr stringent requirements and global standards adopted by the aerospace industry.
"The attainment of this certfication confirms our capability in delievering greater productivity and continual improved performances. As an AS9120 certified 3PL , we reassure our aerospace partners that we continue to meet their needs for substainable quality throughout the entire supply chain," said Charlie Kok, Managing Director, Schenker Singapore.
