Aerospace Sales in the 21st Century - A new Prespective on the Role of the Sales Professional
As news of the battered economy proliferates the media and consumer confidence stagnates to historic lows, nowhere does the impact hit closer to home than in the sales industry. That's why it is important to have an effective strategy in place to take action when the economy is trending down.
Raymond McConnell, co-founder and Managing Director of Sandler Training, Singapore, conducted a one hour seminar with a group of aerospace sales personnel on 19 March 2009. The group gained valuable knowledge and a new perspective on how sales is conducted in present day.
"It is critical that salespeople adopt a strong system that allows them to maintain selling discipline while involving the customer in the process. It is through this process that value is created," says Raymond. In addition, he offers important strategies to recession proof the sales sales efforts.
Sandler Training recognizes and capitalizes on the power of reinforcement. Understanding and implementing a complex set of human attitudes, behaviors and selling techniques is not a "quick fix" solution that can occur in a one-day seminar. These are sustained changes that produce lasting results through the use of participatory and recurring training and strategic business development programs.
The AAIS and Sandler Training, Singapore will be working closely to bring in the latest sales strategies for the aerospace industry. We would like to thank Mr McConnell, for making this event a successful one and we look forward to more events such as these.

AeroOutreach Seminar - HR update
12 October 2007 at AIA Tampines
This HR dialogue was based on the recent changes to Foreign Workers management and it aims to keep HR practitioners and Operations practitioners updated with new initiatives. About 45 HR practitioners from 20 aerospace companies attended the 2 hour session that rounded off with a Buffet Lunch reception.
Insurance Programme For Aerospace Industries by AIA In view of the recent change to foreign workers' policy on medical insurance requirement by the Ministry of Manpower, the AAIS negotiated a deal with AIA to offer the industry an attractive package for this said insurance. There are certain requirements that are set out by the Ministry and terms of references to take note.
R-Pass Assessment by WDA The Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) had also successfully conducted a pilot assessment for qualification of Foreign AeroWorkers. This WSQ-based R-pass assessment for foreign workers, which would be an alternative assessment-only-pathway will qualify workers from the R2 to R1-pass status. This is currently done via the Skills Assessment Test (SAT) conducted by ITE.
The WSQ-based assessment tests are designed to allow candidates to be assessed on different skills collectively in a single sitting. Upon passing the assessment, workers would be issued nationally recognised Statements of Attainment for each of the skills assessed as competent. These would be a recognised skills evaluation mode for R-pass assessment by MOM. The assessment is tentatively scheduled to be piloted in October 2007 and would be available to both local and foreign workers.
In this HR dialogue, AAIS invited the WDA to share further details of the assessment, its implications and how companies can register workers for the assessment.

Doing Good Well!
In collaboration with the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre or NVPC, AAIS organised a "Doing Good Well!" Awareness Presentation to the aerospace industry. The NVPC is a 1st-stop resource and referral centre that can help organisations start their own employee volunteerism programmes, and assist organisations with established programmes to bring more benefits to the community.
In recent years, corporate citizenship and the growing awareness of social concerns and needs has led to the steep growth of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts around the world. Increasingly, many companies weave CSR into their corporate mission and branding as they invest considerable resources to help the community. This holistic approach to business and social responsibilities bring benefits to all parties involved – the company, the employees and the community that they are helping.
Employee volunteering is a vital part of CSR, as employees’ time and skills are important resources which can be used to help the community. A corporate volunteering activity can help to promote bonding and team work among your staff. It provides an opportunity for employees to contribute to the community at large, giving them a greater sense of fulfillment and boosting morale at work.

Safety Talks - in conjunction with the NWSH Campaign 2007
A series of talks was delivered at the Air Transport Training College (ATTC) on 18 May 2007 to a captivated audience who learned about how bizSAFE, a new program by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), can recognize organisations' safety efforts through different levels. That was followed by an understanding of a little-known allowance given by MOM - Accelerated Depreciation Allowance for Chemical Hazard / Noise Control - that can help to defray some costs organisations have incurred on measures to reduce chemical and noise hazard. Absolute Kinetics Consultancy also took the opportunity to share with Safety Managers and Officers present about Risk Management essentials. The day ended with some case studies of past air accidents that were due to human errors, presented by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau of Singapore, Ministry of Transport (MOT).
Special thanks to MOM, MOT and Absolute Kinetics Consultancy for delivering an afternoon of informative talks and ATTC for sponsoring the auditorium.
In the last few years, the aerospace industry had entered into a new paradigm. Business cycles are becoming shorter and more cyclical, customers' needs are rapidly changing, due to the emergence of low-cost carriers, and workforce skills set requirements have also escalated. Developments in some MRO facilities at lower cost locations had fanned competitions. Hence, this conference will give you a good overview of the Global Aerospace Industry beyond 2007.
In 2005, AAIS had released our 1st Singapore Competitiveness Study for MRO Industry. The AAIS Management Committee, together with the Singapore Workforce Development Agency and the Economic Development Board, had re-commission Aerostrategy Management Consulting, UK, to update the study done in 2004. The updated report will be presented in this conference as well.
Both presentation will be delivered by Aerostrategy's Principal, Mr David Stewart. He will be on hand to answer any queries you have.

AeroOutreach: Understanding Your Responsibilities Under The Strategic Goods (Control) Act
SGCA is implemented to prevent the unauthorized trade or transfers of such goods and technology to these undesirable parties. As the spread of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and WMD-related materials, equipments and technology remains a serious global concern, especially with the growing danger posed by the increasing sophistication of proliferation activities, and the continuing risk that terrorists will acquire and use WMDs.
AAIS members knew the importance of thier role in ensuring that the strategic goods you trade in do not land in the wrong hands, nor used for weapons of mass destruction purposes. Thus, over 30 participants signed up for the talk by Singapore Customs, held at their auditorium on the afternoon of 22nd March 2007, Thursday. The speaker, Mr Teh Thiam Siong, Deputy Head (Strategic Goods), Trade Control Branch, gave everyone an insight into the Strategic Good Control Act in areas of concern such as:
As a trader, how will you know that the item(s) you are dealing in are controlled?
What types of transactions are controlled?
What are the permit and registration requirements?
How will the expansion of the Control List affect your operations?
What are the red flags that you should look out for?
What kind of enforcement actions are carried out by Singapore Customs to deter violation under the SGCA?
